Qualification Description
This qualification reflects the role of individuals in a range of community settings and peoples’ homes, who provide support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work according to and may contribute to an individualized plan, and work without direct supervision. They may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.
Packaging Rules
To be awarded a CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support, you need to complete a total of 10 Units of Competency as follows:
• 7 core units
• 3 elective units
Work Placement Requirements:
CHC43115 Certificate IV in Disability has a theory and a practical component which must both be completed satisfactorily before a student can be declared overall competent. Students are required to complete 120 hours of supervised practical placement in a Disability Organisation.
Our RTO placement officer supports all students placement, students are welcome to organise their own placement should they choose to.
Requirements prior to work placement for Guidestar Training in Victoria.
• Completed theory work for all units of competency unless otherwise arranged with the Training Coordinator
• Police Clearance (no more than a year old)
• A valid Working with Children Check
• Proof of Manual Handling Training (Done at Guidestar Training)
Recognition of Prior Learning:
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available to all students applying for CHC43115 Certificate IV in Disability. Recognition of prior learning is the recognition of your current skills and knowledge acquired through prior learning from other training, work or life experience. OUR COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
. Satisfactorily complete Guidestar Training’s Pre-Training Review Process which includes language, literacy and numeracy test (LLN).
. Be over 18 at the time of course commencement.

ASSESSMENT ARRANGEMENTS:
Both formative and summative assessment methods are used to monitor learner progress and assess competence.
Formative assessment is used throughout the course to assess learner progress and the effectiveness of delivery. Formal and informal knowledge checks are built into all units.
Guidestar Training ensures that the principles of assessment which are validity, reliability, flexibility and fairness are strictly adhered to by our Trainer/Assessors. Similarly, our Trainers/Assessors uphold the rules of evidence; validity, sufficiency, currency and authenticity in all our training and assessments.
